AN Addo man serving a suspended sentence for attempted murder was arrested on Saturday night for the murder of his girlfriend.

While returning from a card game at a tavern in Valencia, Addo, Amanda Alkensteade, 22, was stabbed, allegedly by her boyfriend, aged 25, who had followed her home, police said.

“Police received a call about a stabbing incident at Alwyntjies, in Valencia, Addo. The body of Alkensteade was found lying in the passage of her home with more than eight stab wounds,” a spokesman said.

The reason for the killing was still unknown.

“The man arrested was convicted of attempted murder a year ago. He served one year in prison and was then placed under correctional supervision.”

The man handed himself to the police later that day and was charged with murder.

He is due to appear in the Addo Magistrate’s Court today.
