THIS small fishing boat was condemned after it washed onto the rocks in Vlees Bay, Mossel Bay, early yesterday.

Owner Robert Pace said the anchor line broke and when the crew of four started the engine and tried to steer it out of danger, the line tangled in the propeller, leaving the vessel powerless and at the mercy of the waves.

No one was injured and the diesel was drained before it could spill, but the 9,7m deck boat, used for hand-line fishing for hake, was severely holed on the rocks and could not be saved. It will be broken up and removed today.
