EIGHT people were killed in car accidents in the Mandela Bay and Humansdorp areas at the weekend.

Police spokesman Inspector Marianette Olivier said yesterday three people were killed when two trucks collided head-on about 40km from Humansdorp on Saturday afternoon.

“Both trucks burst into flames. Three occupants died on the scene and one person was taken to hospital with serious injures,” she said.

On the same day, two people were killed when three cars collided on the Rocklands Road near Uitenhage, Olivier added.

In another accident, two men died on the old Cape Road after their car veered off the road yesterday morning. On Friday, a pedestrian, Patrick Arnolds, was knocked down and killed by a vehicle in Durban Street, Uitenhage, as he was trying to cross the road.
