Peter Myles: The Apple Express is an asset and an ideal attraction for a family outing. It is a pity that Spoornet (under Transnet) does not maintain the Humewood Road Station which is the departure point for the trip.

Currently the station is a graveyard for rusty abandoned engines and carriages which could be either sold off as scrap metal or moved to another venue out of sight. The Apple Express, as a Section 21 company, cannot be expected to pay for the upgrade of the Humewood station when they are already challenged to run a viable operation. The only suggestion to improve the service rating is to arrange the train’s tuck shop service in such a way so as to avoid a queue.

Weekend Post: The Apple Express, which takes travellers on a return journey on the narrow gauge railway from the Humewood Station to Loerie, is a great way to relax and expose the family to rare and pristine parts of the region which are otherwise not easily accessible. Children find the ride exciting and love waving at pedestrians, but it is the departure station which is an eyesore of rusty and abandoned train carriages. It must be improved if the Apple Express is to gain in popularity.
