Spokesman Luncedo Njezula said the “sectoral development” event, involving soccer, netball and rugby, would be held at the Adcock Stadium tomorrow from 9.30am.

The Mayoral Cup Challenge forms part of Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile’s 100 days programme.

Njezula said: “Through the Mayoral Cup, the municipality envisages the creation of interactive community participation through sport and recreation.”

Wayile will deliver the keynote address. Sports, recreation, arts and culture portfolio head Maria Hermans and ANC chief whip Thando Ngcolomba would attend the event, Njezula said. – Luyolo Mkentane

Why doesn't the mayor and his municipality launch a 100 days of fairness for the bay residents instead. 80% of our rates go to the previously disavantaged areas and 20% remains for our areas, that's why a recent alleged statement was made in council that we, the ratepayers, may only possibly have our parks cut twice a year. One wonder's why the departemental cut-backs are occurring to try and save an alleged R58 million. When this is achieved, what will become of it, more parties, more special events, more money for the previously disadvantaged. Where's the fairness in our rate payments???
