ALTHOUGH it’s fun to sit and watch all the music videos on channels like VH1 or Channel O, the one thing that really grabs a music fan’s interest is the chance to watch a favourite artist in concert.
This weekend there are several opportunities, both on channels where you’d expect to find this sort of entertainment and some where you wouldn’t.
MTV (channel 321) has back to back concerts as part of the MTV Live series on Sunday night.
At 11pm fans of The Script can watch the band play hit songs like Break Even and The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.
This will be followed half an hour later by Lily Allen, singing songs from her latest album, including F*** You, 22 and Not Fair. Both performances were filmed earlier this year at the Oxygen Festival in County Kildare, Ireland. Animax (channel 126) is a less likely channel to turn to for music, but has recently introduced a concert segment.
Tomorrow at 8pm the channel will broadcast a concert Moby filmed in Leuven, Belgium, in 2005.
The concert features songs from his album Hotel, plus earlier hits like Porcelain, Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad and Bodyrock.
If you’re awake by 6am, you can start your morning with London Live on BBC Entertainment (channel 120). Today the show will feature Maroon 5, Bat for Lashes, Kaiser Chiefs and Akon.
Tomorrow the show starts at 6.50am and includes Bloc Party and Lady Sovereign, while on Sunday there are back to back episodes at 6 and 6.30am.
The first focuses on The Charlatons, with Beck being the featured artist in the second one.
It might not be quite as thrilling as seeing these bands in real life, but in many cases, it’s probably as close as we’re going to get!
