(5) LAW ABIDING CITIZEN with Gerard Butler, Jamie Foxx, Leslie Bibb, Colm Meaney, Regina Hall and Michael Irby. Directed by Gary Gray. Showing at The Boardwalk, The Bridge and Walmer Park.

REVENGE is not so sweet in this mediocre thriller about a man hell bent on taking justice into his own hands.

Gerard Butler (who seems to star in every movie on the big screen currently on circuit) stars as family man Clyde. One fateful evening his house is robbed and his wife and daughter are raped and murdered. Clyde manages to survive and because of double dealings, the criminals get off with a light sentence.

Clyde decides to take justice into his own hands and spends the next decade plotting revenge on the criminals and the lawyer who double-crossed him (Jamie Foxx).

Like the plot, the acting is mediocre with lukewarm performances from Foxx and Butler, neither of whom is very convincing or interesting.

There are moments of suspense but they are short-lived and result in a very bland conclusion.

The film is also very violent and is reminiscent of the gory scenes from Saw, with limbs being hacked off and eyes gouged out.

This thriller is not for the faint-hearted.
