(7) ZOMBIELAND with Woody Harrelson, Abigail Breslin, Bill Murray, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone. Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Walmer Park).

WHAT might seem like another slapstick comedy about zombies, is a delightfully fresh comedy with loads of human interest – even considering the limited number of actual humans in the movie.

With all its quirky antics, like interactive floating rules and the names of the characters symbolising their origin, this movie is far from ordinary and keeps you zoned in with curiosity.

Zombieland follows the tale of Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), a neurotic and phobia-driven college student who relies on “32 rules of Zombieland” to ensure his survival.

These include “Rule 1: cardio”, because running from zombies takes it out of you.

Another is “Rule 5: no attachments”, this is a tough one according to Columbus.

When you have family and friends, you’re less likely to survive than the person who has no attachments and nothing slowing him down and causing selfless decisions like going back for the others. This rule, however is the crux of the plot, and as movie-land would have it, Columbus makes some friends and, at first, hostile acquaintances on his journey through the flesh-eaters’ fun-land.

Zombieland showcases emotions like the need to belong and survive as Columbus tries to find his way home in the hope that his parents are still ... well, his parents, and not gory zombies.

On his way he meets tough guy Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) who is on an endless search for Twinkies. But there is more to this character than expected.

They meet two sisters searching for a Zombie-free town and that pretty much sums up the majority of the “living” cast.

Zombieland also ensures the living-dead look like exaggerations of what they should look like in true comedy fashion. But it is exciting and fast-paced and promises to keep you entertained with things like “Zombie kills of the week” and other similarly quirky touches for an hour and a half.
