THE first shots have been fired in Castle Test cricket series and by all accounts we look headed for a thrilling four-match series.
The last time the Poms were out here, they whipped our butts in the Test series. South Africa are chasing some serious payback and hopefully they will return the favour. Most of us would sooner undergo root canal treatment than lose to England so Biff and the boys will be feeling the pressure.
It is day three at Centurion and SuperSport2 and SABC3 will have live coverage from 10am today, tomorrow and Sunday.
Down Under, Australia are also locked in the third day’s play against West Indies in Perth (SS6, from 4.15am this morning) while India and Sri Lanka (SS5, from 10.50am) will take up the challenge in the second one-day international after a massive 825 runs were scored in 100 overs in the opening match.
AT Pearl Valley in Paarl, the world’s second oldest national golf championship, the South African Open, is into its second round this morning.
Unfortunately, the tournament is devoid of regular names like Ernie Els and Retief Goosen. However, their absence will improve the odds for South African prospects Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen, Thomas Aiken, Garth Mulroy and Darren Fichardt while defending champion Richard Sterne should also be a factor. Locals should look out for James Kamte and Titch Moore who both got themselves into contention at Leopard Creek last weekend. Coverage will start on CSN and SS1 at 1.30pm today and 12.30 tomorrow and Sunday.
SOCCER fans will have their fair share of viewing this weekend as well. Tonight Santos take on Orlando Pirates in Cape Town (SS4, 7.30pm) while the feature Premier Soccer League match this weekend will no doubt be the clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns tomorrow (SS4, from 3pm). Also keep an eye out for the Club World Cup final from Abu Dhabi at 5.45pm on SS4 tomorrow.
