AN elegant programme of swing and jazz songs, performed by some of the Bay’s finest musicians takes place in celebration of St Valentine’s Day at Uptown on Saturday night.

My Funny Valentine features Uptown’s own Lindi Doubell on vocals, with a veritable who’s who of jazz players including Garth Tavares (piano and musical director), Dr Howard Nock (jazz guitar), Marlon Louis (trumpet), Devon van Rooyen (drums), Romy Brauteseth (double bass) and Werner Viljoen (vocals).

“Favourite standards and showtunes on the programme include At Last, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald’s Bewitched, Michael Buble’s Don’t Get Around Much Anymore and Everything, Somethin’ Stupid, Natalie Cole’s LOVE, Norah Jones’ Don’t Know Why, Jamie Cullum’s I Get a Kick Out of You, What a Difference a Day Makes and Somewhere Out There. Says Doubell: “The show is intimate, nostalgic, yet contains cheek, charm, vibe and elegance throughout.”

Guests are invited to book a candle-lit dinner table and enjoy the menu created by chef, Jonathan Gunston who is now resident at Uptown.
