IN the days of yore, the village idiot played an essential although unenviable role in daily life.

Sky News seems to have lost its mojo
ONCE upon a time it was the news channel of the year. Still is I suppose. But when, oh when, did Sky News get to be so boring? There’s the obvious attractions, for the guys at least, of the weather girls like Lisa Verasamy, but there’s only so much British weather that you can digest, even when presented by the oh so dry and oh so presentable Francis Wilson (bit of eye candy for the girls!)

A SOUTH African short feature film depicting life in the rural Eastern Cape and the struggle against HIV/Aids will be screened on SABC1 on Wednesday as the introduction of a 10-week run of Southern African short films. The series titled Love Stories in a Time of HIV & Aids is presented by the Soul City Institute in South Africa and showcases films from this country, Swaziland, Botswana, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Namibia. All the films have English subtitles.

‘High School Musical’ cast now ready for rehearsals
THE cast of Disney’s High School Musical, which will run at the PE Opera House from July 28 to August 14 has been announced. The production is directed by the multi-award winning Robin Williams with musical direction by Garth Tavares and choreography by Candice Johnstone, both recipients of many awards in their own right. David Whitehouse, who worked on the professional production, brings his intimate knowledge of the show as lighting designer while Niall Griffin is set designer.
