A GROUP of journalists, NGO and local government representatives have met in Zambia for the first of a series of workshops over the next five years, organised by the Independent Democratic Association of SA (Idasa) with a view to taking part in the Governance and Aids Programme (GAP).
The GAP aims to create a positive culture in reporting on HIV/ Aids, encouraging people to address the problem locally.
GAP advocates lively debate between citizens and the government in contributing to sound democracy, and feels journalists have an important role to play in encouraging debate.
For the next five years, the group will be involved in intensive workshops ultimately aimed at creating a positive culture around HIV/Aids through their reporting.
The journalists will encourage communities to take part in the search for acceptable local solutions to challenges surrounding HIV and Aids.
GAP will also aim to improve internet support for journalists.
