ABOUT 15000 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R675000 were seized by the George police in Conville, George.

Conville Station Commander Senior Superintendent Michael Taylor said yesterday that a tip-off from a community member had led to the issuing of a search warrant and subsequent raid on Sunday.

Taylor said packets containing the mandrax tablets were hidden in the backyard of the house under a kennel containing a fierce Boerboel dog which was removed from the scene without injury.

He said that although the house was occupied at the time of the search, no arrests were made as there was no direct proof that the “stash” was the property of the occupants. Taylor said the investigation was continuing with the objective of determining the source of the drugs and the distribution chain. He felt confident that arrests would be made shortly.
