THE luxury Lexus is opening up – on top, that is. The company in South Africa has announced that it has introduced the Lexus IS250C, priced at R550200. It is the second coupe-convertible in the range alongside the SC430.

Lexus SA general manager Kevin Flynn says the new model’s “three-piece folding hardtop is the fastest operating mechanism in its segment” at 21 seconds.

It also provides the maximum amount of luggage space of any of its competitors whether in place or folded, Flynn adds.

The car – with special features to make it comfortable with the top down – is powered by the same 2,5-litre V6 and six-speed automatic transmission used in the IS250 sedan.

That delivers 153kW at 6400rpm and 252Nm at 4800rpm.

Safety requirements have also received priority, with the IS250C “designed to achieve a maximum five-star rating in both Euro and United States’ NCAP crash testing”.

Standard is a four year100000km full maintenance plan and a four-year-100000km warranty.
