ANY motorsport enthusiast lucky enough to be travelling to Europe in the next few months should maybe consider a new stop-off on the planned itinerary.
That’s because the famous “Silver Arrows” racing teams of Auto Union and Mercedes are on show in Bavaria from this week until the end of March next year.
“Visitors to the Audi Forum Ingolstadt will be able to see 10 of these magnificent racing cars from the 1930s, with their supercharged engines,” the company says. “Seven Auto Union Silver Arrows will be joined by three original Mercedes-Benz racing cars, two of them with race victories to their credit, the third a holder of international speed records.”
The display (part of it pictured left) recalls how the legendary German racing cars began their conquest of the world’s circuits in 1934.
Until the Second World War, there were few events in which the Auto Union and Mercedes drivers, at the wheel of cars with outputs of up to 500 horsepower (about 374kW), were not present.
