AN overwhelming response from La Femme readers to last month’s dream list made one little girl’s Barbie dreams come true. Diana, 11, who suffers from type one diabetes, had her dream of owning Barbie dolls fulfilled when she received Barbie dolls, cars and accessories from La Femme readers.
Because Diana is shy, Reach for a Dream decided to combine her dream with that of another girl, Erika, as the two had met and connected over their love of dolls.
Branch manager Inge Human and other Reach for a Dream members took the girls to Kiddie Lovers party venue in Kragga Kamma Road, a play area designed to look like a little town complete with Wendy houses, which represent different types of businesses.
“The girls soon found the nursery which is equipped with prams, ‘babies’ and nappy bags and lived out their fantasies,” said Inge.
After lunch, the girls were presented with their dreams.
One of the dolls Diana received was a 1960s/1970s vintage Barbie , donated by an 85-year-old Norma Perman-White who is also a diabetes sufferer.
“She was very touched by this little girl and wanted her to have the Barbie,” said Inge.
Other contributors to the dream included sisters Wendy Thomson Katya van Rijswijck.
“Diana opened each dream parcel very carefully, and folded the paper to take home. The delight on this quiet little girl’s face spoke a thousand words,” said Inge. According to Inge, Diana spent the ride home gently lulling her baby to sleep.
