Foxy Roxy makes it to SA’s sexiest top 20 list

By Francois Rank

IT’S enough to make any full-blooded Eastern Cape man go weak at the knees – sexy supermodel Roxy Ingram, who was born and raised in the Nelson Mandela Metro, has been given a top spot in FHM’s coveted 100 Sexiest Women survey.

This week Ingram, who was born in Port Elizabeth and lived in Uitenhage for a while before moving to Johannesburg and Cape Town, was voted number 16 in the survey.

From Cape Town this week Ingram’s mother, Jenny, said she was very proud, but didn’t think Roxy was aware of it yet as she was overseas on a modelling assignment and could not be contacted.

“She’s been in London for the past week and I don't know whether she knows (about the FHM survey) or what her reaction will be.

“She is not the kind of person who is affected by that kind of thing.”

The supermodel, who once dated British pop artist Craig David, will jet back home on Monday before leaving for Mauritius the same day. Last year it was revealed that David had repeatedly cheated on Ingram with sultry Colombian actress Gabriella Gutierrez after Ingram moved to London to be closer to the star.

The two met in Cape Town in 2003 when David visited South Africa for a series of concerts.

Ingram fell for him almost immediately, referring to him as “my man, my baby”. The brunette bombshell was born in Port Elizabeth on May 11, 1982, and spent the first 2½ years of her life in Uitenhage before moving to Johannesburg.

She still maintains close ties in the Eastern Cape and visits friends and family here as often as once a month. “Her grandfather lives in Port Elizabeth and she has aunts, uncles and cousins living in Uitenhage, Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay.

“She visits them and spent some time in Jeffreys Bay in December. She loves Jeffreys and she is very family orientated,” Jenny said.

Ingram started out as a model at the age of eight.

Since then her career has grown and she has graced the pages of FHM and the South African Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

Now based in Cape Town, Ingram’s career demands that she travels extensively.

Among her favourite destinations are New York and London.

She started school at Aston Manor, Kempton Park, before moving to Cape Town where she attended Table View Primary and Table View High School. She matriculated at Progress College in Rondebosch.

Ingram is the youngest of three siblings. Her older sister Samantha and brother Richard both live in Cape Town.

Delivery the key to nation’s success

LET’s face it, South Africa is no welfare state. Its failures fully to deliver affect the matters of old age pensions, keeping hospitals running in an efficient and caring way and getting township schools up to scratch. All these could be rectified by proper service delivery, by ensuring that the machinery of government turns efficiently, that our hospitals are properly staffed and run, that the social services help those for whom they are intended and that municipal services promote the health and comfort of all....
