Bay United and FC AK battle for a spot

Mogan Segadavan

IT will be the final throw of the dice at the Wolfson Stadium tomorrow when Bay United take on FC AK the final playoff for a place in the lucrative Premier Soccer League playoff.

Victory would not only give the metro club PSL status but would also rocket the club‘s market value from about R10-million to anything in excess of R60-million.

The teams met in the first leg on Wednesday and given their 100 per cent home record United scored a morale victory when they played to a goal-less draw in Eldorado Park south of Johannesburg.

On Wednesday United appeared to be over-cautious and even coach Vladislav Heric acknowledged that their passing was erratic. Tampungu Dikete had a blinder making brilliant saves off Mark Mveigh on either side of the break to keep United in the game .

His outstanding performance could pose a problem for Heric when he sits down to select his team on Sunday.

Regular goalkeeper, Arthur Bartman, who had a brilliant game against Black Leopards last Sunday was left out of the midweek game as he was down with flu. According to the United camp he has recovered and will be available for selection.

Linos Chalwe, one of the leading goal-scorers in the National First Division who also missed the last match – he was automatically suspended for three yellow cards – will also be available for selection. His battle with his brother FC AK defender, Sashi Chalwe could decide the outcome of the match.

Striker Abayomi Adebayo who was substituted on Wednesday has also recovered and should be in the team tomorrow.

Jermaine Christian – who could have won the match within the first five minutes on Wednesday when he missed an easy chance from within the box – is expected to return to his familiar role in the defence.

A lot will depend on free-kick specialist Gareth Ncaca and former Orlando Pirates midfielder Luntu Mazana who could dictate the pace of the game. If they cut out the extra pass – especially within shooting range – their strikers would be in business.

Entry fee is R10 for adults and R5.

Kick-off is at 3pm .The match will be televised live by SABC and SuperSport.
