Reaching out to help
Bob Hopkin
STILL only in her early thirties, Kate Smulian has already led a more varied and exploratory lifestyle than most of us will ever experience. Born in Farnborough, the aviation capital of the UK, with an acting RAF squadron leader and bomber pilot as her father, she realised at an early age that she had psychic attributes that few could understand.
Her ability to foresee what others would do or say earned her the nickname of the “Oracle”, even as a pre-teenager.
Following an education in several countries around the world, at 21 she became a flight attendant before using her talents to inform by becoming a tour guide in the UK hospitality industry.
Exposure at that stage to some of the mysterious pre-historic stone circles in England, combined with the perception that she possessed some “supernatural” gifts, led her to develop the unconventional side of her character.
“Over time, I became vegetarian, qualified as a Reiki master, obtained a degree in acupuncture, qualified as a nutritional consultant, tried fire-walking and became a ‘shamanka‘ which is like a sangoma.”
Still in the UK, she experimented with the darker side of the occult for a while before realising that there was often a hidden erotic agenda and she was “playing with fire”.
“It was interesting and disturbing and all part of my spiritual learning curve but I knew when to get out.”
After meeting husband Andy and having their second daughter, she moved to South Africa where she began to hone her gifts to help people that needed extraordinary psychological guidance and insight into the past or future.
“By practice I found that, initially, I could read people‘s minds easily, detect the energy auras that humans possess, and then use conventional tarot cards, palm reading and a crystal ball to foresee what the future held for my clients.
“I also found that I could help them connect with the past by putting them in touch with loved ones who had passed away.”
Kate now has expanded her activities to include regular consultations at local markets where she also offers books on spiritual subjects, as well as recordings of the readings.
“The information I provide comes fast and in big chunks, so sometimes my clients can‘t take it all in and need to study the recording at their leisure” she said.
Kate admits that some aspects of her work include a degree of showmanship but adds that this contributes to her clients‘ ability to relax and open up their minds to her.
“It is so important for my clients to lose their inhibitions so that I can connect with their inner being and help them lose their repressions,” she said.
When asked what, so far, had been the most life-changing experience of her career, she had no doubts.
“It may seem very conventional but having my children has given me the most stable insight on life.
“Before then I was searching for something that I could not identify but now I would die for them.
“My only objective is to help create a better world for them to live in.”
Kate‘s new objective is to develop her hypnotic skills, first to entertain, then to use these to help people quit life- threatening lifestyles such as smoking or excessive drinking, and finally to offer self-hypnosis media to assist people to help themselves. She is producing a range of self-help books and soundtracks.
