Protesting attendants not required
DURING the last couple of centuries man has used mechanics and technology to enhance productivity and to save themselves from doing things manually.

Take pride in our own New Brighton
THE time has come for the people of New Brighton to stand up, be counted, take pride and take ownership of New Brighton.

Richards: ANC simply trying to buy more time
THE letter published on Tuesday, August 31, from Zandisile Qupe, refers.

Public has right to know truth
THE gist of Monday’s editorial is that the metro suspended its municipal manager and after a year it has not completed its investigation nor, therefore, been able to prove the allegations made.

Wording of Freedom Charter must be respected
AT this turbulent time in South Africa, it is interesting to see again the wording of the Freedom Charter of 1955 which was supposed to represent the core principles of the ANC, the South African Indian Congress, the South African Congress of Democrats and the Coloured People’s Congress.

Will 40 million non-union citizens please stand up!
IT strikes me, during this unsettling period of industrial action, political poppycock and general mismanagement, that if Zwelinzima Vavi wants to really bring the country to its knees, he should organise a strike of non- unionised citizens.

Press freedom
AS a member of Thomas Pringle’s family, I protest with others who are appalled at our government’s wish to curb our right to press freedom.

Open letter to Jacob Zuma
IN case you have forgotten, I wish to remind you that, at your inauguration ceremony when being sworn in as president of the Republic of SA, you took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution and to serve all the people of this country.

Strike deflector
THE president’s spin doctors were very clever in getting him to make a “surprise” visit to Sweetwaters. The object was obviously to take the public’s eyes off the strikes. Not one word has come out of any government official condemning the strike. – T Walton, Lorraine

Was Richards born under a lucky star?
IT is well known that some people are born under a lucky star. One such fortunate individual who falls into this category is Graham Richards.

Metro takes incompetence prize in staff suspensions
I HAVE worked in the field of labour relations for close on three decades and believe I can claim with confidence to have witnessed the entire spectrum of inappropriate application of employment legislation.

EPRFU can’t afford to neglect security
I HAVE been an avid rugby supporter and player for many years and used to represent many old “coloured” clubs in Uitenhage, including Gardens RFC and Excelsior RFC.

Union must crack down on violence
IT is regrettable that a child of nine lost his valuable life tragically at a club rugby game in Uitenhage and a request for video evidence has been sought (“Boy dies in rugby chaos”, The Herald, August 23).

Cops intimidate school pupil
REGARDLESS whether a person agrees with the current teachers’ strike, it is surely expected that professional people show certain ethics. Sadly this is not the case.

Malema, well done at council
AS a delegate to the recent ANC Youth League first national general council in Midrand’s Gallagher Convention Centre, I congratulate the ANC Youth League president, Julius Malema, for his handling the matter of his deputy, Andile Lungisa. Malema openly announced that the vote of no-confidence against the deputy president was driven by jealousy, witchcraft, satanism and personal issues.
